Eleni - Roto Brochure Rough Draft

Hey guys! Here is my brochure so far. I've created a tri-fold 8x8 brochure...for now. The top 3 panels are the back side (back cover, back middle, front cover) and the bottom 3 panels are the inside. I'm planning for the shape on the cover to be a cut-out so the photo from the inside back cover will peak through. I'm still debating on if I want to keep this format, but I wanted to get your opinions before I go ahead and change too much.

  1. Eleni,
Very creative idea for the 8x8 layout. I actually think it works well with the way you've chosen your layout. My suggestion to you is to maybe find a spot for your companies "services" such as the kind of things you can have printed with this process. Some people may not understand what roto graveure printing is, but they may need something done that requires this process. Maybe think about putting it on the same page as where you described the process? Great work so far!

  2. Eleni – I think the die-cut idea is great, and the type and layout is clear and concise. Nichole might have a good suggestion about adding more specific end products, to help the reader be completely clear about what products are best on this press. More thoughts:

Cover: I suggest you remove the heavy black lines around the die cut areas. You aren’t doing the printer any favors for introducing the tight registration that those strokes will demand, and I think the design would benefit from their removal. No strokes needed, in my opinion.

Is your logo too far from the die cut way up in the upper left? Is there a way for those 2 elements to work more closely together, so they don’t compete with each other, but instead support each other?

Inside: Please control the hyphenation in your type blocks, I see that Boston is being hyphenated. Ugh! I even wonder if you have experimented with justified type here rather than FL? This isn’t dense type on the page, and there is plenty of negative space around the blocks of type… so try it and see if the cleaner shapes are what you might like.

The right hand inside page with the photo circles: Those circles are reminiscent of your die cut, which is the point I think. How can you make them even closer to it? Have you considered adding colored shapes that wrap around each photo in a way that would enliven the composition… in the same way those shapes wrap around each other in the die cut? Even if those added shapes were tinted lightly, I think it would add some interest to that page – and help us keep seeing the brand.

Do you think you should add contact information here? Maybe inside front cover?

Very nice, this really looks quite good.

  4. I love how you used the clipping mask on your front cover. Also you have great use of empty space. Nice job!
