HI Class!
Heres my Design brief In-progress, as ill be separating the contents in different pages, like in previous Design briefs done before. I had A really tough time choosing my target audience, but I think i'll be for newspaper companies, for most of them use Newspaper printing out of Letterpress machines. I also changed my brand from before, as the up side down crescent shape was sort of misleading. Somehow I think the bottom shape isnt that necessary. Any thoughts?

Keenan – I don’t think that your audience/customers are large businesses like newspapers. No way – they all use web offset lithography because it is fast and cheap. Letterpress is slow and expensive. So you need to really look at your competitors in the Boston area like: Repeat Press, Albertine Press, and Firefly Press. Those are the commercial printers that are using letterpress presses. Please do more research so you are clear about what your process is, and for whom. This is an age-old process that is starting to come back into vogue… but doing what for whom? Important questions to answer.
ReplyDeleteLogo: Is your eagle looking menacingly at the typography? Please reduce it – significantly. I like the solid and outline typography combination. Maybe a bit more room between the 2 words?
Color: Please drop the background pink/flesh color. This isn’t possible on a letterpress machine, so it doesn’t make sense to use it in any of the marketing material. And, it is really not a good companion color to your blues and red. I suggest you use white background.
Images – nice, and they share that blue/grey tone that I see in your color palette.
Fonts: I don’t believe that you are actually using Republica Minor in your logo, unless you have really over-distorted it. If your intention is to use it for the logo, then you should use it as is… or find a tall font that will work for you. Bernard MT Condensed is an art nouveau font – quite fancy and actually could work for both your logo and the headings in your marketing projects. Have you considered using that instead of Republica Minor. Body copy as sans serif is a good idea, because it makes you look contemporary… and a good combo with Bernard.
Please review your written brief, there are parts that don't make sense. Get help proofing it if you need to. This must be college writing.
A good beginning – I hope you can make some of these changes before tomorrow’s presentation.
