Farns_Brochure First draft

HI Class!

I'm sorry if the photos here came out distorted, I did save them as A jpeg at high quality, but as you can see from the layout, Heres my start off of what I have planned for my brochure. Before I forget, i'll be placing the contact under where Johanne Gutenberg quote is. The textured type thats at low opacity is more of the common letterpress type most people use today. I figure this type would go in the back of the brochure since I think it would cause a distraction near the body copy.

  1. Keenan – I hope you repost this brochure design after we fixed the format size last class. It is so small I can’t read it! But, I can look at the design – so here are some additional thoughts that you can be working with as you rework the design to the larger format:

There seem to be only 3 pages here, so you will need a 4th added to be a 4 page brochure. Because of the larger format, you may need to find more text to work with. Try to find text that talks about what projects you specialize in, why someone should consider your press versus any other type of press (do they only need a few hundred designs reproduced – do they want that slight indent in the paper that is created when the caste type is pressed into it – do they want to use some textured, unusual paper stock?). Think carefully about what your press offers the customer and make sure the brochure explains it – that’s the foundation of a good marketing project.

Logo – still thinking about it because I believe that the way you are using it on the dark blue background inside the brochure (the logo is light blue) may be more successful than how it sits on the cover. Consider using that dark blue on the cover, and running the logo in light blue – icon sits without the rounded border (it really doesn’t need that containment) and the type sits in 2 lines, EAGLE on the top, and PRESS below. I also think the heavier version of the type face is better.

Inside pages: please enlarge your outer margins along the edge of the page – use 3 picas, and set up your 2 column grid with a larger gutter between the columns. Consider using only white background, and dark blue background (with white type) on your pages. No red, it just doesn’t seem to work all that well… AND your process is very much a 1 color process… so the fewer colors you can use here the better.

I see a cool picture of an old press, but it sits on a very unbalanced page. Maybe after finding more type you can return to this layout and allow the type to flow down the column next to that image.

I don’t understand the last page here – Who Are We? I’m wondering if you mean to place it further forward in the brochure (like on the inside of the cover?). It would make more sense there, wouldn’t it? Also need more text on this page – because now you need to explain Who You Are!

Lots to do Keenan, please address these issues and repost ASAP.
