Hi all,
This is what I've come up with so far for my brochure. I do intend on making the pictures match my color palette better once I get the images off of think stock. My idea with the blue and greenish slanted boxes were to put an element of the process in my design. Everything is done with layering each color so I chose a sort of contemporary way of layering colors. I'm not sure how I feel about where my images are placed and I still may change them if I find better ones. But for now, this is what I have, let me know what you think!

Nichole – this has a strong aesthetic appeal right away, nice. Some thoughts:
ReplyDeleteI want to talk about the cover, back cover, and fold-in panels. Currently, because of its placement, the cover panel (which must be your far right panel) has only a light blue angled shape and nothing else on it. Is this your intention? I suspect that your panels might be mixed up right now, because of course we will need to at least see the logo on the cover. So I’ll assume that your far left panel design will actually be moving to the far right, and will need to be redesigned a bit to work there. Note: the contact info can go on the cover, or the back cover – it’s up to you. But, I want you to know that you have a choice, and you should think about it. If it were to move, how else might you treat the typography/logo relationship on the cover?
Fold-in panel (which will be your far left panel eventually): Needs to work with your far left inside panel, because as we open the brochure those 2 panels sit side by side until we open it further. What can it hold? It almost seems like the blurb you have on the back cover could work well here, with a slight rewrite: “Premium service and high quality matters, so let US do the work for YOU!” To unify the 2 panels, consider horizontal alignment between them, or allow the angled background colors to travel across both panels.
Back panel: You have the social media information here, and I’ve suggested you think about possibly moving all the contact info here (while moving the quote at top to inside fold-in panel). I love the way the colors come together at the bottom, with the overlap. Very nice. Just add a small logo above contact info and this will be done.
Inside panels from left to right: Should the list contain the same dingbats as the other list here? Why not enlarge both images at the bottom, and allow them to bleed into the fold as well as off sides (and bottom?). I say this because of the large amount of space in the layout between them and the lists above them.
Our History (should this really be titled “What We Do”): This does seem dense, and I suspect you should probably cut it a bit. I would enlarge the margins so the text doesn’t sit so close to the folds and find a way to chunk this text even more. Can you introduce a few more paragraphs? Can you pull out the list of products and place it elsewhere? There is a section with a question and answer rhythm – how else could this be designed beyond sitting there as body copy paragraphs. I think this is a opportunity for you to consider how to bring your typographic skills to play to interpret this content in a way that is more engaging for the reader. And cut out what isn’t necessary.
Great beginning!
Hi Nicole! I admire how you distributed the colors on the brochure. I'm thinking on the right panal on the front side, place an entire image? perhaps one showing one of the machines manufacturing one of the services, youve written. I also think you should move your logo almost halfway down the page, giving more a bit of legibility. Something to consider.
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI think you did a really good job on your brochure, I also like that you made it into a tri fold, I think it's a smart choice.
Nicole
ReplyDeleteI love the colors you've used here. They're very bold and I think attract your audience. I also like the way your shapes overlap and create this effect. They almost lead our eyes exactly where to go and read. For the text on the side flaps, I think they might be a little too close to the edges of the shapes. I agree with Coni that the other side should also have the bullets that you've created for the other side, just to keep it consistent. I also like the idea of playing around with the typography for the quote on the back. It would definitely help the message excel. Great so far!
